Wawawa Music Store Integrates with Windows Media Player in China

Expanded Music Catalog now includes respected independent label group Beggars Group and also domestic indie labels Tag Team Records, Maybe Mars & Bad News

Beijing — December 2nd, 2008R2G, the leading legal digital music distribution company in China, today announced the integration of its digital music store, wawawa into Microsoft’s Windows Media Player to provide China’s growing Internet audience with easy access to a diverse selection of more than one million recordings of international and domestic independent music.
wawawa’s (www.wa3.cn) catalog has been further expanded to include some of the world’s best known independent labels - 4AD, XL Recordings, Rough Trade and Matador Records, through an agreement with Beggars Group and also numerous domestic independent labels including Tag Team Records , Maybe Mars and Bad News in addition to music already provided by leading independent global music distributor, IODA
As one of the most popular music players in China with an installed base of more than 100 million, more users will now have easy access to purchase legal music from China’s largest library of independent music at wawawa using Windows Media Player. The seamless assimilation into Windows Media Player will give users an immersive music experience using thumbnail and album art in an elegant and simple design that blurs the line between online service and media player experiences.
Microsoft’s David Taylor said “With the wawawa Music Store and Windows Media Player, customers can easily access and download music directly to their music player.”  
With Chinese consumers demanding more flexibility and options, wawawa is created exclusively to cater to their needs by delivering all songs in DRM-free mp3 format with all downloads being permanently owned by the customer. The wawawa-Windows Media Player system will be a one-stop digital music experience for consumers to hear and discover music via preview streams leading to easy access music purchases via permanent al la carte downloads or monthly subscriptions

New label partners Beggars Group will for the first time make available for legal purchase in China its vast catalogue of influential acts that include, Vampire Weekend, Cat Power, Cocteau Twins, MIA, TV On The Radio, Basement Jaxx, Interpol, Anthony And The Johnsons, Prodigy, Beirut, Thom Yorke, Jarvis and The Pixies among many others.

Chinese powerhouse indie rock band Brain Failure, signed under the Bad News label will also be exclusively launching their latest album and their back catalog in digital format for the first time in China via the wawawa-Windows Media Player over the next few weeks.
Xiao Rong, lead singer of Brain Failure elaborated, “This is the first time that we are releasing our music in digital format in China and we are thrilled about the possibilities that wawawa-Windows Media Player will bring in developing a channel for indie music to be heard in China”
Similarly, some of the leading independent labels in China like Maybe Mars (Carsick Cars, Ourselves Besides Me, Joyside) and Tag Team Records (Lonely China Day, Arrows Made of Desire) are also making their full catalogues available digitally in China exclusively via wawawa with more domestic independent labels in the pipeline.

About Brain Failure & Bad News
